Setting labour rates
How Sidekick costs labour, and how to set rates per person or for the whole business.
Job profit is what you invoiced less labour and materials. Labour is the hours recorded in ServiceM8 times an hourly cost. Getting that hourly cost right matters more than anything else in Sidekick's numbers.
Where the hourly cost comes from
For each person, Sidekick uses the first of these it finds:
- The cost on their labour rate item in ServiceM8.
- Your rate: a rate you set for that person in Sidekick.
- The Default rate for staff without their own: one rate for the business.
Setting rates
- Go to Settings → Labour rates.
- Check the rate shown for each person, and which source is In use.
- Enter Your rate for anyone whose rate is missing or wrong, and set a default for the business.
- Press Save. Profit figures update with the next calculation.
Use the full cost of an hour, not the wage. On top of a bare wage, an hour really costs you super, leave and public holidays. The Labour rates page shows the multiplier, and the free employee cost calculator works out a figure.
